Oceana County fire department responses fall into three main categories: fire response, first responder response, and jaws response. All Oceana County departments provide Fire response. The basic response definitions are as follows:

Fire Response: every county department provides response for fire supression. In addition to fire supression services, departments respond to a wide variety of general emergency situations.

First Responder Response: first responders are trained and certified to provide basic medical services prior to ambulance arrival, and to assist abulance crews after their arrival.

Jaws Response: certain departments are equipped and trained with 'Jaws of Life' used for extrication from vehicle and machinery accidents.
